seems marams may be to expensive plus i don't know where to find them but does anybody know of other pikes with good color

some of the more spectacularly colored crens would include cobras, xingu1, marms, lents, cinctas(not a huge fan of the green var but still nice), some variants of johanna are really nice, the list is a long one. online is probably your best bet at finding the nicer ones. lfs around here dont get much in other than xingu 1, venezulans, or the smaller species not sure about where youre at though. pros to buying online are better selection and for the most part proper id. cons are not seeing the actual fish and shipping prices. if you buy from a reputable supplier not seeing the fish isnt an issue, i have purchased quite a few fish online (not pikes) and havent been dissappointed yet nor have i had any losses. i say pick what you want and go for it, not what you can find and settle for it. good luck
Ken from Fish Farms had some nice Cobras for 35 each and Nick from N-E Cichlids had some Acutirostris for around 50 or so for each. Not sure if they still have them but you can find them in the vendor forums. Just PM them. Rapps has some Marms at 8-9" for 100 each. He has a pretty decent selection but his prices tend to run a little high. But he does have nice quality. Not a huge selection out there right now. Plenty of Xingu I's all over though.
Neither the cobras or the acutes are not highly aggro with the acutes being one of the better Lugubris as for as temperment. And they (Acutes) are a gorgeous, slender looking pike. If I had to pick between just those two, I would choose the Acutes.
But you can't go wrong with either. Just remember if you are trying to get a pair you are better of getting at least 3 at the minimum, more would be better.

would be fun to breed pikes but i think i'll stick to one for know

If you want better personality and temperment between those listed it would be the acutes.
If it is just my flavor the Marms would have my vote.

I got an Acutirostris from Nick. Great looking Pikes. They are my favorite as far as color, but mine is around 5" so the color will only get better. If you decide to get some from Nick let me know and I'll order some too.
