On my 125g I have 2 fluval 405s and an ac110. On of the 405s impeller cover keeps coming loose, the cover has been replace and the problem persists(I always make sure both tabs click). I have been researching other canisters and have a few dilemmas.

1) FX5 - the 16" dimension, is that just the round section or is that including the drain? If that includes the drain what is the diameter of the canister without drain? My stand is overbuilt and a 5 gallon bucket is about all the stand can accommodate and the canister has to fit in the stand(tank is in my living room and appearance is important to my wife).

2) Eheim 2075 - Do the still leak? Also I don't want green plumbing, the hoses are an easy fix but what are the nozzle options? I know I can configure something but looks are extremely important. What is the return hose size?

3) Eheim 2217 - Just how big of a pain is maintenance without trays? I also have the same concerns about the green plumbing and would like to find out the hose sizes. This one is leading as of know due to its track record and the fact that they are cheap.

Marineland 530?

I had positive experiences with their hobs but for someone don't even think of their canisters, but I'm open to the idea. Do you know the hose sizes? I have hydor eth heaters, which is why I'm so interested.

I got a Marineland 530 in a package deal on the 150 cube I bought last weekend. I'll take a look.
ID 7/8"
OD 1 1/8"

LoL just saw one of those "leaking" 2075 on CL today. I'll try and get the FX5 measurement for ya but it is a bit bigger then the 5g bucket. I had 2215, wasn't bad doing maintenance, just got rid of it because it was a leaker.

XP3 is a good fit for you. It doesn't have green hosing, and does have media baskets. And you will not have the impeller cover coming loose again.

2217 is very good too. Maintenance is nothing after doing it a few times. I actually clean it faster without the baskets. I think I usually get one done in 10 minutes. I have a total of 4 classic's so I must be happy with them.

You can't go wrong with either one, from my personal experience. I used to have a 125g too and I had a XP3, 2217 and 2215 (with 2217 impeller upgrade) filtering it.

I was thing about a xp3 or xp4, especially since I can get them locally and the 2217 would have to be bought online.

I wish I could do a sump but I would have to take down the tank to get it in the stand and would prefer to avoid all that work.

C-530. Very nice filter, media baskets are huge. 3 liters of matrix fit in one basket. Hoses are a smoke color and blend in well.
