Hi I just bought another tank, a 5ftx2ftx2ft 150g, it comes with a fx-5, lights, i'm planning on stocking this one with a Jaguar and some tank mates.

...However it doesn't come with a heater (the guy broke it)

All my other tanks came with heaters with them so never really had to look in to it..

Will one 300 Watt heater do the trick? or do i need 2?

I'm in England and its always pretty cold here (especially now...loads of snow)

I would suggest 2. I use 1 300w heater for my 90g.

I would recommend the new fluval heaters. They are really nice. I dont think they are best value though (cheapest that still works).

Thanks :)

Can't afford to much this side of Christmas, i noticed those stealth heaters etc but they seem pricey and never had a problem with the old testube ones yet so i will probably go for one of them and hope my Jag don't smash it. (i might position them so they cant be accessed)

I have seen lots cheap which are American (long delivery time, wrong plug attachment, Fahrenheit instead of Celsius)

So will keep looking for cheap UK ones, can i still cycle my tank without a heater? if so there's no worrys till after Crimbo.

the digital display on the fluval heaters can be changed from farenheit to celcius they are good cause they also come in protective plastic casing my FH hasnt busted it yet.

I've also got a 5x2x2, in the UK too ! I'd recommend two 300W heaters for your tank, unless you water change with pre-warmed water where one 300W heater in the tank will be fine.
In these cold temperatures, I really value the warming ability of two 300 watters after water changes.
Personally, I'd recommend the Eheim Jaeger range of heaters as a great balance of price/reliability/heating ability.

Marineland Stealth Heater are a piece of crap IMO. Theo Hydor cost way cheaper and functions much better than any heater I have deal with on the market.
If you don't want your fish to break the heater, then use a PVC pipe and put the heater inside of it. Drill small holes all over the PVC pipe to let the heat to warm up your water. Your local LFS or somewhere should have suction cups in stock where you can hold your PVC pipe with. This is how I do my set up if I worried about them breaking the heater. :)

I'm with hamfist. Eheim Jager heaters are the best in the world. They last 5 years or more. They have exact temperature settings(the temp will always be a little warmer than set, so just set a little lower). They have larger surface area because they are made of 2mm thick glass instead of the usual 1mm thick, so they require less wattage to heat a tank. And the best part is that they are very cheap, cheaper than any of the ones listed above, from what I have seen anyway.
