Hello. I maybe about to acquire a 9" Eyed Cochliodon. Any tips I should know?

- My tank is bare 50 gallon, decorated with bogwoods. Lit with halogen lights. Will keep it solitary with Mollies. All Panaque are very slow-grower so I think it might be OK?
- I use 2800L/H outer filtration system. Water is very well-oxygenated and have current.
- BEC is a herbivore like other Panaque? Veggies OK?
- Water parameter and temperature?

Any advice would be appreciate. Thank you.

I'm mainly confused whether it's herbivore or not. I Google'd and some source say it's omnivore but wiki says it's herbivore though.

I have a blue eye panaque around 10" and the care I find is the same as any other panaque to be honest, mine is at ph 7, 28 degrees nice soft water with loads of bogwood in her tank, she gets 2 50 percent water changes per week religiously, I pop in 2 vitilis Pleco cubes in per night with veggies 2 times a week, I've tryied her on prawns and other meaty foods but she doesn't seem interested at the moment, not to sure on the tank size should be ok short term but out obviously not long term, mine lives in one of my 125's with other smaller L190's, L27's and other L numbers and she's doing fantastic, can't see how they need a lot of space really as they don't move very much, in the next few months I'll be moving her into her forever home 350g with my other larger panaque's and see how she gets on, your filteration sounds fine as well, the more the better with panaque's there like poo machine's, hope this helps, anything else and I'll try to help you as best as I can

I removed most woodlogs except 2 since they seem to blocking BEC instead. Or should I keep ones that was braches-like for him to hide?

First night in the tank: moving aroung so much. Sometimes he rests at one spot but not long. Good thing he ate Hikari sinking pellets though.

I would just make sure there's enough wood in his tank for him to hide and feel secure, if he's by himself you won't need loads because there is no in fighting for territory, I have tons in mine but there's a lot more then one panaque in each tank, I need loads so they can all secure a territory for them selves, if he's eating already that's an excellent sign I took mine a good week or so before she started eating, try him on some blanched cucumber mine absolutely loves it, as for a staple I use vitilis Plec pellets there superb and made specially for plecs, not sure what hikari are like for plecs to be honest I've never used them, I'm very fussy and only use vitilis as it's specially made for plecs as I've said, I'd recommend you get some if you can I have 30+ L numbers and they all totally thrive on it, honesty couldn't recommend it any higher.

I woke up and found mine rearranged woodlogs' position to his own liking and hide under it. He also ate a huge chunk of blanched cucumber I put in last night. Seems like everything is set for now.

That's great news, hope everything's keeps going well for you buddy, he seems pritty settled already which is the biggest hurdle IMO, once panaque's are settled you very rarely lose them in my experience, it's just getting them settled and eating after you crack that it's plain sailing.

I think mine settled so easily because he was quarantined in small tank by the retailer for a long period of time. They always kept Royal Pleco in warehouse for a month at least and make sure it ate something before selling it. Anyway, lucky me I guess. But I'll keep an eye on mine closely in case something happened. :)

That's a sign of a great LFS if you ask me, post some pics of him when he gets settled, hope everything keeps going smoothly for you buddy.
