Need advice about caring BEC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This morning he hasn't eat blanched cucumber I put in last night. Always hide under his new favorite driftwood. Must be because last night I installed spray bar/ messed with outtake from outer filtration which create different kind of flow so he was stressed by it. Fixed that a moment ago and decided to leave him alone for a while cause I saw him still eating small amount of pellets.

So BEC doesn't like strong flow? My L27d loves it since they're from a river but I think BEC are from a lake so they like calm water?

I believe the area that they are collected from is quite fast flowing, mine was from Columbia but I believe there is more that one collection point mine was sold as a (blue eyed Suttoni) so they could be a slightly different fish (although from what I've seen they look identical), mine really enjoys fast flow and lays underneath the spray bar ,but every fish is different and has there own personality so I wouldn't worry if I were you, I would only give him veggies 2 times a week with 3-4 day breaks inbetween as some panaques have been known to eat them selves to death, so be careful not to overfeed

Update: My Blue Eyed Pleco is now settled I think. He ate entire cucumber and poop all over the place. His eyes are now turquoise blue. He also loves a flow from an outtake so much he plays with it.
I was trying to take his picture but he suddenly leapt under woodlog lol.

That's fantastic news, try and get some pics up, there a lovely pleco, very unique, my blue eye is one of my all time fav's

Here is the pic. He (assumed to be, or it is a she?) is by himself with Mollies (that's doing great job cleaning his poop) in 50g tank. The only thing bothers me is that temperature is a bit high (30-31 C, but I live in tropic country and kept tank lid closed). Perhaps it's due to an outer filtration system with UV lamp built-in? He eats like mad and look very lively though.

If he grew, I still have 280g tank for him but it's now occupied by GATF. Then again, BEP growth rate is very slow so maybe in 5-6 years I think.

He's nice, very hard to sex unfortunately with out seeing the fish in the flesh but if I had to hazard I guess I'd say male, wouldn't worry to much about temp, mine has been up to 29-30 lately and mines doing fine, there really really tough fish not much bothers them if you avoid the extremes obviously, if he's in a 50g with a couple of mollies he should be fine short term, mines only in a 125g at the moment with large clown loaches, and other L's she has more then enough space as she barely moves lol she's lazy
