Hello

I have a 170G tank (using as a 140G), using only 1 water heater (ebo jager 250W). The dial is turned to 86 degrees, but due to the winter cold (high 50s -low 60s), the temperature is only 76-78 degrees.

I would like to keep the temp between 78-82 degrees, but I REFUSE to use an additional heater (due to my astronomical electrical bill when I added a 100w ebo.)

What can I do? Please, give positive advice and comments. Thanks

JJ

Wrap it in insulation of some sort even if just thick blankets. Make sure you have a good cover also.

you're using more electricity by not adding the extra heater cause i use a 300w on my 120 and it's almost constantly on cause i really could use a 400 .get a 400w for the winter months. and call it a day. BTW send me a thankyou message when you get your bill.

BTU's are BTU's and energy is energy. To raise the temperature as it is currently set up there needs to be insulation. Adding wattage to increase the temperature will only increase energy consumption and raise the power bill.

Get a sheet or two of the stiff insulation board. They call it celotex or tuff-r around here. Cut pieces to fit and surrond the tank with. Good thing summer is coming.

but his 250 is probably constantly running cause it never reaches the desired temp. i bet if he went out there it's probably on and looks red hot.

So....... add another heater (my electrical bill was $250 with the two heaters I mentioned, now averging $150 with one), or just plain insulate? I got a .25" acrylic cover on my glass tank. Aren't other members experiencing high energy bills?

Thanks to all for the advice, please keep it coming.

How about a kerosene heater for the garage?
