Need Advice on 220 Overflow Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, I could try something like that but I want it to look nice as well as be functional. I'll be honest, I'm not very good at pvc work and I am not a big fan of it in a really nice finished aquarium. If it's black then I think it hides much better though.

I feel that 1200 is a little high for a gravity drain. If you drill for 3x1.5 inch bulkheads and do slits the hole lenght of the tubes you will be able to flow alot more then 1500gph if you ever wanted to

Would you have any links to show how that type of overflow is made? I can almost guarantee that anything I make won't look nearly that nice. I also want to be able to keep the water line above the top frame of the tank. Do you think that will be possible with that style overflow?

No I don't have any links on how it was made but you can basically do the type of overflow with slits lentghways threw the pipe or 1/4 inch holes which is how I would do it because it is easier. Patients is the way to make it look nice and usually I try a few test pieces before I make my final part.
Yes you can make it above the trim you need to figure out where you want your holes and make your pipes that set upright to the length that they are needed

Well, I picked up the tank last night and the stand tonight. I was lucky enough to find them available from separate sellers because neither of them had the other available. I got the tank for $400, with two 6' lights (I am not positive if they work yet though) and I got the stand for $100.

I think the tank is probably pretty old because it is an O'Dell brand and from what I have read, they were bought out by Perfecto prior to 2000. The glass is very thick (looks to be over 1/2", probably about 14-15mm) and it took four people to load and unload it. I am going to verify that it doesn't have tempered glass before I order the overflows. My dad has a polarized camera lense cover and I have a laptop so I am going to test it with those.

If all of that goes well then I have decided go with three of the H2Overflows with two of their 3/4" returns. This will give me peace of mind and I will feel confident against any floods.

Does anybody have experience with O'Dell 220 gallon tanks that could provide me some good insight? I would be very happy to hear anything you have to say.

Thank you all
