Nice! Watch our for that cactus. My fahaka was cool with it for a long while before biting off the top fin, spine and all

So far they stay away from each other but I hear that the aggression in Fahakas only kicks in when they're like 8+ inches (unless I'm wrong just repeating what I've read).

I've also read that they can only be in sand, is this the case or will the river rocks be ok?

Maybe you’re right because mine went nuts at 7” or so and that’s when it bit off the dorsal and caudal fins of the plecos.

Sand is more for ambush predators like suvatti, miurius, or baileyi puffers that hide in the substrate.

I had gravel with my fahaka and it was fine. In fact, he’d sometimes bite one or two pebbles while trying to pickup his food and I thought that was a good thing.

Mine has been aggressive since the beginning for the most part. When I got mine I got two because I liked them both. I was kinda hoping to keep them both but inside I knew I'd need to make a choice sooner or later. Besides some food aggression the two little .5" fahakas would spend most of the time near each other. The food aggression was what worried me that what people said about them in the future would be true. So I decided on the more outgoing one and took the other back. I tried a few things with him guppies, cories, petricola cats, a few "shell dweller" cichlids no shells for obvious reasons ( they are not true shell dwellers really anyway). All have been attacked, most Ive gotten out before any major losses.

Sand is preferred, but mine is currently on fine gravel. Mine has never showed any interest in burrowing, but some do. I don't think it matters with fahakas as much as some of the others like P phreeflow said.

I guess we'll wait and see how things go ?

So I've had the puffer since Jan 1, I've heard puffers can take weeks to "adjust" to their new homes, is this true? How often should I feed this guy? The first 4 days I had him he ate a shrimp a day, passed two days nothing.

Also, the puffer does swim around a bit. But it loves staying under the fx6 intake. I'd say it's sitting there 80% of the time, and it's practically the middle of the tank. I thought it was a hiding thing but there's three empty flower pots as well. Added the blue light shot so you see he does it at night too haha. (Ya I need to windex the glass but it's the back of the tank ?

I was feeding mine daily when I first got him. I did that for about the first year. Once he was about 3" I started every other day feedings like the rest of my fish.
