need advice on moving a reef tank please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would at least let the tank settle, and cycle using all the nasty dead stuff on the rock.

Or run your sump with a filter sock to catch all that stuff as it gets pulled out, one of the two.

i hope the tank doesnt have to cycle again. i really dont want to lose any corals :(
especially the pricey ones.
i have a frog spwn hybrid thats worth about $100 bucks

The hybrids are cool...there are lots out in LA.

Saw them at vividcorals for about $40. Great store.

this one has about 6 heads on it with neon green tips.
oh just a heads up the move went good. everythin made it so far. i found out i have flat worms :/ what can i do to get rid of them?
rearranged my rock it looks really cool. alot more open caves and stuff and alot better flow thro everythin, i might add a medium size fan behind the rock to aviod poop accumulating

What kind of flat worms. AEFW...very small I doubt you would know if you would have these, are only eaten by a couple different wrasses.

no idea. i only found them on a few of my palys
i heard about this stuff called flat worm x or somethin
do you think that would be good? or just a six line wrasse? i think my klunzinger was keeping them pretty controlled but he is gone now bc he ate everythin and was just a pain.

here is a pic of the tank and i pic that actuallty shows the light the way it looks in person and a few of my favorite corals :)
oh and how we moved the tank:
first we bagged everythin individually and put them in styrofoam shipping boxes then removed the water and filled as many jugs and bucks as we could to transfer the water and keep the live rock alive (mostly bc most of it has corals attached to it) then removed all the sand and moved it. rinsed the sand alot it was really nasty. and added water and floated everyone and that was about it. it took almost 6 hours from start to finish. the most time consuming thing was bagging and heating up the water once in the tank. that was with 2 250 watt heaters.
thanks everyone for the advice

Man, you did huge overkill on that move of yours. I usually just let things sit in buckets dry or just submerged without air or heat.

Im impressed.

lol i wanted to make 120% sure nothing was goin to be damaged or killed in the move. i am very happy i did it that way. its almost like nothing happend to the tank. everythin is just as happy or happier (bc of the rock structure meeting there requirments better) so advice to others is dont skimp when moving a reef tank ;)
now to get my powder blue tang and another tang. possibly orange shoulder or clown tang not sure yet

You better be getting a bigger tank asap! Clowns get huge, and both are mean.

Both are also acanthurus tangs...so watch out for especially intense aggression between the two of them.

Both are also fish that sometimes just die in captivity for no obvious reasons to the owner. What this really means is that if you plan on doing either one you should really have your eggs all in a row, and be super prepared, knowledgeable, and ready to give them exactly what they need. (A lot more space.)

Good luck, keep us in the loop.
