My uncle just got a new 45 gal tank but it has bad lime deposits on it or something. I am just wondering what we can use to get the deposits off and get the tank ready for fish.

not sure if you have them across the pond but you should be able to scrape it all off a glass tank with a 'stanley blade" it will come off with elbow grease but that takes an age

A razor blade works great, just keep away from the silicone.

To a lesser extent, table salt and a little water to make a paste to scrub it with works too but it's more effort.

:iagree:

It took me awhlie but I got mine off an old tank with a nice long scrubbing =) Worked great though!

You can soften the whole mess up by taking a few paper towels and soaking them with distilled white vinegar (acetic acid). The vinegar will dissolve a good portion of the deposits. A razor blade will remove all the surface lime. After most of the lime is gone, take a balled up paper towel or sponge, soak it in vinegar, and wipe the glass to remove any remaining lime from the surface scratches in the glass.

Thanks for all the input I will give it a try and see what happens again Thank You

What's a stanley blade look like? We probably have them in the States and just call them something else.
