I have got a 16-18 in Silver and just about every time I get ready to clean his tank, mainly just when I get the supplies out from under the tank. The fish just starts freaking out and going all over the tank and hitting the top of the tank. I was just wondering if anybody else's fish acts like this. He is normailly calm until you get under the tank does he freak out. He will come up and take shrimp from my hand any other time. Any advice would be appreciated.

you said you have got.. so does this mean you got it recently? if so, he is just stressed to its new environment.. is he in a room? if yes, upon entering, turn on the room lights first before the aquarium lights.. 5mins would do and stare at him during that time.. that way, he gets accustomed to your face then afterwards, turn on the aquarium lights.. if you're leaving the room, turn off the aquarium lights first before the room lights (common sense lol).. my monster always freaks out when i clean the tank.. maybe its afraid that he's gonna be dinner lol.. but after cleaning it, i stare at him for a few minutes and calms down.. and i observed that during everytime i clean the tank, he gets less and less freaked out but never did it happen that he never freaked out.. but its ok.. just have patience my friend..

Absolutely normal behaviour.

Let it get used to you.

I will try all the things you guys just said. I have also had him for about 6 months and clean his tank about once a week. I was also wondering how long you guys usually leave your lights on and what works on algae real well or just scrape it. I was hoping this was normal because I have read that they are very slkittish.

i had one that acted the same way.I did more water changes, just less water, like 25 percent and he got use to it in no time.

I have a 24 inch silver arrowana and for the most part he is docile and friendly. Except when my 21 year old nephew comes over, he then fraks and tries to jump. Not sure why this happens but they say the arrowanas spook easily. I agree with everyone else and let him get used to you

just noted your name being Danny....nephews name is Danny as well....maybe it is the name :)

clean one side of the tank then the other try to be gental when scrubbing.

My silvers do not like when i fiddle around the tank e.g. taking supplies under the tank, but they do not jump, just swim away or dart away.... quite annoying actually.

They also hate when i use the magnetic thingie to wipe the glass

Well mines are totally the opposite from yours when doing water change. Mines are very tame, except for the blacks.

Well just give your new guy some time to get use to its surroundings.
