ok so last year i was having wooden floors put down and varnished etc at my place. for some reason toxic fumes and stuff managed to get into my fish room and i had a total wipeout except for one ornate that survived ( haha :D ) anyway im getting floor put down again and stuff is being fixed/added.

what advice can you lot give me so i don't lose my fish again. do i need...dust sheets or something? i'll leave all the windows open and stuff but i dunno what else to do. like i had to replace all my filtration and stuff last year because of the dust that got into my tanks and im NOT doing that again. also some of the workers left my door open and i think this is how the fumes/dust managed to get in whilst they were building. anyway i need some advice. im sure many of you have moved/built stuff whatever and have needed to cover your tanks and stuff. flooring is happening in a month i think. so i have a month to get everything ready.

right. hit me up with advice!

well in the hospital we use positive pressure to keep the rooms streial... so if the weather is warm-cool but not hot or cold i would say put a fan in the window blowing into the room and keep the door shut and the vents to the room closed .. that will in a since make the air in the room push air OUT of the cracks and vents and keep the bad stuff out of the room .. that might be an option .. but i have never tryed it ..

hmm i was thinking of fans too just to make sure that if anything does get into the room there will be fresh air coming in too if i leave all my windows open. basically half of the room has floor length windows anyway so i'll open the top half. im just worried about the canisters/pumps pulling dust into the aquariums because i didnt realise dust was in the tank until i pulled the hood up and i saw a really thick layer of dust on the surface of the water

OIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII.

BUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you lot answer meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Don't use sheets to cover the tanks. Use plastic. Sheets breathe, something I wouldn't want if there were poisonous fumes in the house. Throw a towel down at the bottom of the door to prevent anything getting in through the door frame. If you use air pumps, try to place them where the fumes aren't! :)

If you don't typically use carbon, plan to use it while any fumes are present in the house. Don't skimp with it either and continue to use it for a while after the fumes ahve dissipated. Just because you can't smell them anymore, doesn't mean there isn't some lingering toxicity in the air.

put saran wrap on the floor or any other cleap wrap all over the floor. can try tin foil or both in conjunction

ooooooooh completely forgot about carbon filter pads!!! good one! hmm last time i didnt have that either - totally forgot about it.

and what's a saran wrap?

Saran wrap is something you are supposed to put on toilets in the middle of the night.
