Hey man, I thought that myself but this fish does'nt have the red eye of the Channa marulioides

what do you mean "red eye" are you talking on cardinal or its actual eye.

if actual eye - only thai spec get the bright red eyes
if you mean on cardinal then it may not have shown yet , they do not get them for several months.

with a head as blunt as that is has to be maruloids or melanoptera , if the cardinal eye spot does not devolop at all then melanoptera , but i highly think marulioides

Yeah I meant cardinal, fair play you seem to know your snakeheads so i'll trust your judgement i'll post a pic of it swimming for ya tomorrow, thanks a mill man!

I thought maruloides have an ocellatus or gold rimmed spot on the caudual peduncle/tail ? Mine doesn't could it be a black snakehead Channa melasoma?

Your one looks more like a Marulius to me!
