I have five of these guys, two have just paired off and laid eggs. They are tough little guys...remind me a lot of convicts when it comes to their temperment. I don't have any oscars but I have seen them hold their own in a tank with fully grown ones.

In reference to the "tail clamped" remark....it is when thier tail stays "clamped" together instead of being spread out regardless of whether they are swimming around or sitting still.
