So im looking for ideas on possibly why my 10 out of 11 CRS shrimp just dropped dead today?

Water parameters are all barely readable if at all, PH is around 6 - 6.5

Temp hovers around 24'C

This morning i went to work (10am) and there were no noticeable casualties, then i come home from work (7:45pm) and discover i've lost 10 semi decent CRS shrimp...

So what could possibly have caused such a kill off in such a short time? Coz this is naturally very frustrating considering i've owned them for only approx. 2 months and they hadn't bred yet...

pH that low could mean that biological system not functioning well. What are your other water parameters?

My PH is purposely that low for the shrimp... Its from the soil and Co2 injection that brings it down..

As for readings, everything is pretty much at 0, since its a planted tank...

Which reminds me, Co2 is at around 30ppm...

any chance of a co2 dump? Inadequate oxygenation? That temp is a smidge on the warm side, but the other parameters look fine. Did you dose any ferts before you left?

Only dosed excel as i've done every morning?

I agree the temp is a little warm, although i was hoping to accelerate breeding, but now i've turned my heater down to 22'C even though there is only one lone surviving female...

The oxygenation seems like it may have been the cause then?

But then that brings up the next question, when should one supplement oxygen into the tank without venting out the Co2? Turn on the pump at night?

That may be needed, especially since your tank was a little warm (less dissolved o2 available in warmer temperatures). Be cautious with excel, as well, as there are very varied reports on its effects wiht shrimp. If you are using co2, you shouldn't need the excel.

^ Thanks for the heads up on the excel... I guess i'll try cutting out using that starting tmr and hope the remaining one survives...

Will also need to pick up a new air pump tmr while im at it...

Sorry to hear about the loss. I lost about 7 CRS today as well. I did some water change 2 days ago and the death comes today. I suspect the water conditioner I used which I overdose in my water... Nevertheless, I'm gonna do some testing if the water conditioner is the cause. And yes, excel do pose some harm to shrimps.

^ Thanks for info, and it seems today must not be a good day for CRS if you are also having casualties too...
