need definitive Umbee info!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeh i noticed the classification error when i did some more searching. oops.
thanks for the replies guys but the wife put a stop to this before i even had a chance to get to planning. under no cicumstances, except divorce, am i getting a 7 or 8ft tank for 1 fish, and thats the polite version.
but i may get away with a 4x2x2 with a lone nasty beast in it like a trimac, FH or something else reasonably big 12-16".

so any suggestions on the 4x2x2?
a single large fish that will be in their for life.
no black nasties though as there is something about their eyes that scare me. i dont know why eyes bother me so much but there you go lol.
the wife said no 7-8ft tank with 1 fish in so i will go nearly halves and have a 5x2x2 community and a 4x2x2 monster tank.
i was thinking trimac, FH etc. but it will be in the 4x2x2 for life with little chance of an upgrade.

lol worth a try. i think i can get away with a 4ft long tank. i can see her point it is excessive having a 7ft tank for 1 fish. i would do it but i can see why she wouldnt. if i did it though she would love that fish like any pet, she hated my uaru but now loves the little guys. i have told her that if we get a big enough house when i leave the armed forces i will have one regardless of what she says.
so any suggestions for a large nasty and angry fish that will live its days in a 4x2x2?

you could do a male RD in there for life and they can be tought to have some reall attitude.

cheers for the suggestion. im unsure about training it to have real attitude. I would much rather it have the attitude it would naturally, at least as naturally as a tank will allow, have. Im not a big fan of the so called "glass banger" behaviour, it seems the fish is needlessly hurting itself. I could just be being soft mind you.
thought about a male pure RD or pure midas, I hear good personality and lots of character and colour. the only problem i have with either of these fish is that i dont get the excitement factor that i get when i imagine a trimac or your xanthic jag in my tank. i dont know if it sounds strange or not but you know when you just feel its just right.

A 4 foot tank is a little on the small side for a male jag, but I think it would work. A trimac would be cool, although I don't really like them. I think a large Vieja or Paratheraps would look really nice, actually. Black belts are the meanest of the bunch and very nice looking.

What about Amphilophus chancho? They get big and are very cool. I think Jeff Rapps has some, or at least he did.

if the jag will be a tight squeeze then thats off the list as i dont want to put undue stress on a fish just for my enjoyment. i like the look of the xanthic jag that was all. i have a 5x2x2 so i could do some juggling around and put my current stocklist, just means i wont add more uaru, in the 4x2x2 and get a large pred for the 5x2x2. that extra foot should open up a few more options dont you think?

well i not sure if its a great idea...but it has the aggression you plan on seeing naturally and some great colorations...but you could try getting a male motaguense, or a black nasty...or a carpinte, or a red terror...not those false festae...but the true ones...i have a wild caught female and she's one aggro M-Fo! lol but yea...she more aggressive than male red terrors from most peoples experience.
