Hot melt glue is safe, or my fishies would be dead by now. For silicone you'll want a basic acetic cure, will be called window and glass or similar, the instructions may say it's suitable for small aquarium construction and continuous water immersion, don't get anything that has mould inhibitors.

Most of the smaller powerheads like that have a flat plastic grilled pannel that's removable. I have a similar pump that I modifyed to drain and fill tanks. (MUCH faster than a simple syphon.)

drill a hole in the grill the size of the tube, and silocone it on, you might even be able to offset the hole so that you can retain the flow control, it might work, just a thought.

great idea. i'll see if that is possible. i may have to glue on a smaller tube and adapt it to the larger lift tube. if only there was a place that sold the black cone thing on the bottom shown in the pic

how much did the little pump cost? is it really worth trying to use what you have got?

Pump was free to me but i think they go for $8 or so.
And actually, the tiny pump has a flow greater than what would be ideal, since it is for a sponge filter that would work with a simple airlift. So yes, it really is worth trying to use it. If not only for the enjoyment of DIYing. Hydrosponge also says it will work with a powerhead, so don't worry about informing me of the poor life decision to add a powerhead to a sponge not made for powerheads- this one is.
