Who knows , if they are opposite sex you may get a pair.

A local fish store had a devil and a butti try to pair in a 125 but 1 was sold.

well the devil is male for sure b/c i vented it the butti im thinking is female based purely on the fact that it acts like a whimp

ive got one other question my 75 has been running for like 2 years would i be able to use the water water in that to fill the 125 then just add the rest of the water like i was doin a water change and be able to put my fish in there right away? the reason i ask is b/c the butti has gotten beaten up even more through the nite and i dont wanna leave then in there any longer than i have to

Yes, if you use the water and filter media from the 75 you'll be good to go.

yeah im taking the entire marineland hob and putting it on the 125 as well as buying a canister can anyone suggest a good canister for a 125 ?

also now that i have a 125 should i try to put another cichlid in there like an oscar or something or should i just stick to those two. I dont mind only having 2 fish in there but i dont want any unused space

You should move over all substrate, decor and basically anything that is established in the 75 gallon at the same time you move the fish (filters especially). I would not add any fish for a while despite the tankmates because your 125g is going to have to cycle so adding bioload of more fish will only hurt. Not knowing your budget, I prefer the fluval FX5 canister on a 125g myself but those run about $250 with media. You can safe a ton of $$$ and buy a few inexpensive sponge filters if your on a budget.

I wasn't thinking of adding any fish today just wondering what my options were down the road? I was thinking of an fx5 as well as far as a filter goes

fx5 is a good filter. I would stick to just those two fish. If it was me I'd keep one of them in the tank if I wasn't using a divider but I'm not going to beat that to death since you're not going to do it. It's only 125 gal of water for two highly aggressive fish that grow over a foot and based on what you've written I don't see it working for too long. Good luck, I hope I'm wrong.
