need fast ID, Reds or piraya

I was told they have been in a 55 gallon for 8 years which explains their throats/chimples. So reds or pirayas?

they may be reds, They also appear to be in rough shape not sure if thats gill curl or not.

Hmm I'm curious as to why you say reds? I think Piraya, the red coloring on the sides seems to be in the flame like pattern. What makes you guys disqualify this as a piraya?

Because they are reds. The flames do not pass the lateral line and color is uneven and obviously more nattererei like than piraya
