Need Filter Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
WOW, 2 AC 110s on a 40? I would think 1 AC 110 would be more than enough.

Maybe go sponges and powerheads, with 1 AC 110. Would be cheaper.

Definately recommend Rena XP3 with the included spraybar.

Hey guys thanks for the advice.
What yall think about the 405?

I love my FX5, but have heard the smaller fluvals have some problems.

I don't think two ac 110 would be over doing it... run one set up for mech filtration like double sponge and filter floss and one with a single sponge and double bio... best of both worlds.

Canister would be cool too. 40 breeders are nice tanks. Did you get it on sale? The big chain stores have been practically giving those away lately I've noticed...

I just put up my 40G breeder. Now I need a good filtration system.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thinking about 2 aquaclear 110 knockoffs
or a nice canister. Advice please!..

Stocking with cichlids.

Aquaclear knockoffs? Can you explain that?

Think one AC110 would be enough though to answer your question. Or two 70's for the hell of it. :naughty:

If you dont put the lid on right it can leak, and the little suction cup primer thing is kind of a pain, other then that mine was ok... was at least 5-8yr ago that I had one an it was for 3 massize turtles. Not fish, so my account of it might be alittle off.

Why would you say you want good filtration then talk about knockoff filters? No offense, but if you want a solid filtration method, you can build it, pay for it, or get garbage. Spend the money to get a quality product IMO.

I have been running a 304 for a decade and I love(d) it.
Until I got the XP3. These Rena models have all the advantages of Fluval
plus ease of use. I have some trouble priming the Fluval and sometimes
I have to adjust the lid once or twice to keep it from leaking after cleaning
and the quick release is a PITA (getting reaal stiff).
I have none of these issues with the XP3.
