Thanks for the input!

In reference to Discus, Wikipedia has to say:

In the wild they are opportunistic omnivores and their diet consists of invertebrates and plants. The waters from which discus hail are typically slow-moving, soft and slightly acidic (1 - 5 dGH, pH 4.0 – 6.5). Temperature of the water in their natural habitat varies from 25 – 30 C ( 82-86 F).

Aquariums for discus should be kept within a temperature range of 26-31 C; a temperature of 29 C (84 F) is thought ideal for adults. Babies and young fish should be maintained at 31 C (88 F) degrees. The water should be very soft and slightly acidic; a pH of 5.5 - 6.5 is considered good for wild caught discus.

This would require some massive changes in the tank including how to keep the ph so low, removal of my current fish, and possibly replanting. Sounds major. Anyone else have any ideas? (not that I've discounted discus)

Discus don't eat plants, not that I've ever seen or heard of anyway...you can't always trust Wikipedia, hell, I could edit that page to include "discus capture birds with poisonous 6' long tongues and can fly" ;)

The problem I find with discus and plants is that; Discus like it hot and dark, and plants do better cool and bright. Plants (like discus) like a lower Ph.

No you can't. Many Universitys learned not to allow Wiki cited info because it would be incomplete/wrong.

I have never seen discus eat plants either. In fact I've seen many planted tanks with discus. As far as PH with fish don't read too much into it. Check into it in the Discus section but most fish adjust to PH just fine although sometimes PH being off will affect color I wouldn't think it would with Discus a whole lot.

BTW this thread should give you some ideas. Lots of planted tanks too. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76023&page=2

Discus has my vote too. And maybe a couple Altum Angels? Sorry I didn't see this thread before the Arowana one. :)

A couple of bichirs would be cool in a medium planted tank.

Sorry, my internet has been down for two days and I never saw this post. Those are just cool! They certainly aren't colorful but definatly unique. I don't see anything about them eating plants either. In fact, they require plants for a healthy enviroment. I'll do further research for cost and what not. Thanks for the info!
