Need heater advice for 90 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pro tip I read here somewhere

If you do get an Inkbird. So not really sure about the newer wifi models but the older models, the temperature sensors are known to fail overtime. Simply coat it in thin layer of silicone over the sensors and up the cord a bit to prevent it from happening.

It really depends on the type fish.
If by Africans, you mean rift lake species, the depths where most cichlids live, water temps in the mid 70s are common.
If Mexican cichlids like the carpintus/Nosferatu clade are kept, summer temps up to 82 are common, but winter temps in the mid 60s are also common.
Northern South Americans like Acarichthys and discus , and southern Central Americans like haitiensus may be more picky.
But "southern" South Americans like Gymnogeophagus, or Australogeros, aren't picky at all, so I kept mine in Wisconsin without any heaters, and my house dropped into the low 60s air temps in winter.
