I have an African Lungfish that I got from my biology teacher 2 years ago, he has been in the same tank with a koi/goldfish mix for over a year and a plecostomus for almost a year now. He can't eat the gold fish/ koi mix because she is to big and he dosent mess with the plecostomus because he use to be in a tank with one before I got him. I keep the water warm and change the filter regularly, I dont treat the tank with any chemicals because I believe it kills off the fish. Recently I have noticed that his "legs" have white on the end of them and they look slightly shorter then they normally do. His tail as well now has white on the tip of it and it is not slimy like the rest of him. I actually dont know if it male or female so I dont know if that has anything to do with it or not but I am worried and dont want ot loose him. I have been obsessed with him since the first time i saw him in my teachers class. here are a couple pictures I got of it I hope they are good enough.

Your Koi and goldfish are probably picking on him. I've seen feeders goldfish picking on my lungfish's fins before. Although koi and goldfish have no teeth buy they can cause damage by continues nips and pull hard.

I had to remove some dithers in my tank awhile back for this exact reason.

Also goldfish are extremely messy fish so removing them would be a benefit in having to do less w/c

Thanks but I mean its only one fish and she is a mix of a koi and gold fish but she never bothers him she is usually always swimming up top and she minds her own business. She's been in that tank with him since she was really little though so I kinda figure she is use to him and knows to to mess with him.

don't worry lungfish are extremely hardy just take out the other fish and he will be fine and heal up back to normal. mine got whopped by my knife fish and he is now fine his "legs" where bit off and are now grown back.

Goldfish are not very bright and it is their nature to pick at stuff. It did not learn anything. Remove the goldfish and see if your lung gets better.

That looks like fin rot, not nipping. You need to get an API test kit and let us know the temperature, pH, ammonia, and nitrates. Also, what kind of filtration, tank size, water change amounts and frequency, and what you use as a water conditioner.

Where would I get an API test kit and how much would that cost? and I know the filters for the filtration are 10-20 sizes and I think it is a 20-50 gallon tank I am not really for sure since it was given to me. I change the water in it about every 3-5 weeks. I have a cleaner pump to help with the rock cleaning and make sure I get as much water out as I can so I typically take the fish out so I can go lower and I dont have a water conditioner I didn't even know there was one. I didn't know about all of this stuff I swear my biology teach has had him for a long enough time for him to get bigger and she gave him to me and she didn't do water tests or have a water conditioner in it and she had a huge goldfish with him and she never had any problems with him.

You need to do some research. You took the responsibility of an animal that you don't know how to care for.

First off goldfish and lungfish should not even be in the same temp water.

There's articles all over the web about all these topics, don't be arrogant.

I am not being arrogant! I took the responsibility of him because she was giving him away and no one else wanted him. She had him the same exact way I have him now and he has lived like that for problem over 20 years but now all of a sudden it decides to mess with him? I came on here to get help not to be shoved around by someone!! I am sorry for not have a huge extravagant tank like you and that I dont have the money to get him one yet. I am sorry for trying to find a job and take care of a pet a teacher was going to just to toss away to anyone at least she gave him to a freaking animal lover!! She has had him living this one since he was a baby so I don't really think it is going to bother him.
