Need help about my Lungfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really, the stickies at the top of this page will give you most of the basic information you need. Read those and do what they say, then come back for more clarification. We just want to help you help your lung. They are fascinating creatures. That said, get rid of the goldfish.

thank you and I dont know what to do with the goldfish, I have them in a separate thing like a giant bucket but idk what do with them..if there not safe to being the same tank as him are they safe for him to eat if I kill them first? I just need to find something to do with them if I cant have them in the same tank as him bc I dont have a separate tank right now and cant get one bc i dont have room for it.

Wow mfk, you guys are a lil harsh. Heres an obvious teaching moment to help out someone who clearly lacks experience with the fish keeping basics and we're talking to her in a condescending tone?

Provide links and make things easier instead of flaming. I'm in a hurry and not on a laptop so I can't at the moment. I hope someone takes her under their wings though like many people did me when I first started. This is all fixable without hurting peoples feelings

Some pet stores will test the water parameters for free if you bring in a sample, you also might be able to bring the goldfish into a LFS

Hi shirley, this links would provide you fishkeeping basics, actually from what you've said a while ago, it is really off the charts for the needs of a lungfish. And btw, people here at MFK literally would flame at you, but that doesn't mean that all the people here are total whatnot.

Try to read this first.

start off with this 2. With the medications, hopefully an expert would chime in.
Fish keeping is a vast world of knowledge and patience. Literally, it demands commitment.

Don't worry about the lungfish, it's practically hardy. You just have to know what's what in order for you to meet it's husbandry needs.

Don't worry about the haters, this forum can be hostile towards newbies. As stated if you take a water sample to your local fish store (LFS) they can probably test it for you. Post the results here.
In the mean time i had a similar thing with my lung, it was a tank mate biting him, once removed he healed up surprisingly quickly.
From your post it seems your tank is far too small for a fish that has the potential to grow to 4'+ you need to make the decision as to whether you are prepared to invest in a 6'+ tank or to try and find someone who can provide him with what he needs.
You say you change the filter, what do you mean by this? You should only ever clean your filter in tank water to remove debris. The bacteria that live in your filter are essential in keeping your tank healthy. Look up the cycling process of a fish tank on google or on here.
Also you should start doing 50% water changes weekly as a minimum.
Any more questions just ask, we were all noobs once despite the attitudes on here!

thank you all for your help I really appreciate it I love my lungfish deeply and would hate ot loose him and I have noteced he has actually been a little better after one day of the koi/goldfish mix not being in the same tank as him.
