My wife has a discus tank and we have always had great luck with them. About 5 days ago I got 2 ray pups and put them in her tank, everything still was fine with them.. yesterday I walked down and every one of the discus look like crap and are all crammed into the corner of the tank. They go in spurts where they wont even move and look dead. I did a WC and added prazipro because I have started feeding the rays blackworms so I was wondering if they got sick?
Are the discus just freaked out by the rays all the sudden? Or what is going on? any help would be great thanks!!

Rays were bread locally and have been on good medication since the day they were born so I didn't see any need to quarantine them. Temp in the discus tank is always at 86.
Id it possible the rays are just freaking them out and over stressing them? I have already set up a different tank to move the rays into if anyone thinks it could possibly help

We bought a few discus from a friend In Our local club and something similiar happened after we moved them too. The batch of discus we have now are from a local breeder, we keep the water clean and warm 84 to 86 and the group of 4 Are thriving. We do 50% weekly water changes and add a little extra conditioner suggested by the breeder and they are thriving and seem to attack top of the water when we enter our fishroom.

My rays are fiesty at least the bigger one is. The stress might be causing it. I wouldn't put my motoro pups w/ my discus. They are getting big enough to go in my 240 w the juvie cichla, probably over the weekend.

Are discus still feeding?

I'm not a discus expert, but it def looks like some type of fungus or bacteria. I'm going by the cloudy eyes & fins as well as the mucousy looking slime coat - mainly visible on your turks. Different fish carry different immunities, it is my guess that the rays passed something to them. If I were you, I would sign on to Simply Discus post your pics & fill out their disease questionaire. Lots of knowledgeable people on there that will help.

You've totally changed the dynamic of the tank by taking 4 out and adding the rays, they simply look stressed. When any fish is stressed their immune system goes to hell ad they are susceptible to things like fungus and disease. Time may let things get back to normal, although the tank looks very open, and discus like cover such as plants, or logs.

Dithers such as a school of tetras might bring them out of the shock they seem to be in, but there then is also the chance of bringing in disease.

Seems like I do the same for our discus
We had the group of 8 then got rid of 3 but i already got them back in hopes they would get happier, kind of funny that the 3 we sent to another tank are acting the same as the 5 we kept but those 3 were gone 2 days before the rays were introduced, this is why im thinking its possibly from slitting them up ans not from anything brought in by the rays.
I do agree with you guys tho, the cloudy eye and fungus look bad. Will melafix help this?

So do you suggest I take the rays out and out and just wait to let things settle back to normal? Or leave the rays in?

Also the a few of the discus did eat this.morning
