I was talking about the one in the picture ..and you can bring out the colors wiht a select diet not just any good diet..it is specific JP.

Carotenoid pigments are red and orange.
Xanthophylls are yellow.
Melanin pigments are black and brown.
Phycocyanin is the blue pigment derived from blue-green algae.
Cells containing yellow pigments overlying those containing blue pigments can produce green hues.

Fish are capable of producing some pigments, but others must be supplied in the diet.

Black and brown pigments are produced in cells called melanocytes.
Fish are incapable of producing carotenoid and xanthophyll pigments.

Therefore, these must be supplied in the diet. The colors of the one in the picture can be made better ...

The one in the picture (KAABBB posted) doesn't look like it has bad genes or comes from parents that has bad genes so stop speaking in general.

Not all genes are expressed in the offspring even if it comes from beautiful parents and no one can tell if those that come from bad ugly parents have genes in their lineage that can later be expressed in the future. That my friend is biochemistry and genes and a complexity that goes beyond just having your parents carry the gene for a specific phenotype/appearance.

Everything is multi-facet and no one is dumb for saying that there are multiple factors that cause a fish to look the way it does.

It is said in your rules for noobs thread why not use a black gravel or wall background environmental factors while certain factors might have a bigger influence on the appearance its not absolute. (You are not an ass but you insist a inferior status given to those that are new to the hobby hmmm.. good one JP very smooth.)

I NEVER SAID THAT A LOW GRADE CAN BECOME A MASTER PIECE DONT PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH PLEASE.

WHAT I DO SAY IS THE ONE IN THE PICTURE CAN BE TURNED INTO A 1-2K FISH AND BE SOLD IN NYC TO BUSINESS CHINA MEN FOR THE SOLE REASON THAT ITS SUPPOSE TO BRING GOOD LUCK. (JUST LIKE THE RED AROWANA CRAZE)

I TERMED THIS " Demand"

Just to understand this correctly.. they will all agree its a masterpiece hmmm since its all in the genes, and everyone gives a good balanced diet...no credit should be given to the owner which would make the term masterpiece an Oxy-moron.

while this is webster-dictionary.com definition of masterpiece-
1.a person's greatest piece of work, as in an art. 2.anything done with masterly skill: a masterpiece of improvisation. 3.a consummate example of skill or excellence of any kind: The chef's cake was a masterpiece. 4.a piece made by a person aspiring to the rank of master in a guild or other craft organization as a proof of competence.

uh.......ok. So you said the fish in the picture is going to be a nice fish under the "selective" feeding and I am wrong blah blah....ok I got that, but here's the thing........ The dude NEVER posted the pics of his so called "really high end" flowerhorn Dude, what are you talking about?:eek::eek::eek::eek:

That's what got me all boiling at first too. You didn't even see the damn picture of this FH and you said under the right care, right "selective" feeding he will become a 1-2k fish just like the C-town FHs. Doesn't that sound very noobish to you also?

About black background and gravel tips post, read more, it covers about feeding as well. And you sir, have NO knowledge whatsoever about flowerhorns. Try black background and gravel on your FH, you will surely shut up about you saying how other factor(feeding) will have greater impact than black background/gravel.

But yea, WTF am I doing at 4am in the morning arguing about someone who sees imaginary picture that is never posted and starts arguing the hell out of someone out of nowhere? I am done, argue/waste all your time you want replying here.... ALONE.

Haha this thread is sweet!! ladies and gentleman the main event tonight!! between the medical student and the experienced fish keeper!! FIGHT.. LoL

Round 1... Go! hehehe

In conclusion, other then your success in showing how condescending you are to "noobs" you have proven how open minded you are to any information presented to you in the hobby of FH because of your extensive experience skill and mastery of raring chanced genetically predisposed FH into "masterpieces."

Since you do not want to direct your comments at the present issue I intially commented on which was the picture of the actual FH in the picture on page 4, but rather speak in general of all flowerhorns just to give a smart rebuttal that wasn't that smart by the way shows just how "not an ass you are."

Yet you talk about the chance of having fry that might have a hump due to parents genes and then about how its ridiculus (quoted below also) Are you suffering from a problem with your attention span or something this is what you wrote dude. Let me bring it together for you bud..

JP: "
If their parents had head, color, pearl and etc.... genes, your FH will have higher chance of having those characteristics, and they show like a sore thumb as little as 1inch."

JP: Buy ALL LFS FH frys for $8 all day and give them the perfect diet, hormone diet, lighting for right kinds of FH as you state and make them all into 1-2K fish and become a millionaire!!

NYCOM: no JP that wouldnt be the best thing to do since you said first that they show like a sore thumb at one inch...hmmmm this also makes you quite the skilled flowerhorn picker since its showing so sorely JP.... PERIOD lol

The OP didn't post any pic of his so called 'High end FH'... but somewhere in the middle of the thread some member did put a pic of FH and asked if that would be considered a 'High end FH' or not.
Some people here think of themselves as 'Fish God' or something... and instead of helping, they get in that 'Oh, I'm so cool that I know more than you' attitude... and that's mighty pissing off!

He's not trying to sell it so why contest so hard?

If this thread continues on this pattern, I as a senior member can guarantee it's closing.

Can't we discuss this minus flames?

It's about the fish guys.Attitudes aside.

Yes now, you are making sense. LEARN how to "quote" on what you are talking about and before that you shouldn't be talking at all.
All this non-sense from your mistake of not "quoting" what your reply was refering to, great job. You are saying I am an ass, but what do you sound like? A FH ignorant ass hole?:ROFL::ROFL:

But yea, keep us updated on your FH progress with your perfect diet plan for it. It will show exactly what I am talking about and you will finally realize. You speak like it's the magic wonder you did to improve on your lowgrade FH, infact it is called a "typical" improvement as it grows. You will bring out the best of the FH with a good diet, but there's always a limit. Just keep on updating your fish and when it reaches 8-10inches or so, we shall see:) Your fish have NO hope of being a decent one for the FH hobbyists eyes. But then, like you said beauty is in the eyes of a beholder. Keep loving it lol!

Look at my join date. I go WAYYYYYY back with administrators here even before this site ever existed.:)

But yea, I agree, I have no idea why all this non-sense started with nycom2011. Nycom2011, just think of me as an arrogant ass and I am wrong, and I will think of you as a FH illiterate ass hole and we will call it it day.
