What's the absolute most humane way of euthanizing a fish? I need to do it asap for one of my sevs. The little dude had his ENTIRE tail fin ripped off. :swear: I'm trying to figure out which fish did it but it could have been a few. The little dude is still trying to swim around but i know it would be the best thing to do. Just don't tell me I have to hit him over the head with a hammer or anything. He's only about 2 inches and I'd probably have a tough time doing that to him.

and i tried the search function but there are just too many threads to look through

Put it in a tupperware of tank water, cover it, and put in the freezer. If you have any clove oil handy, a few drops in the water will put the fish to sleep before you freeze it and you can be sure that it's not feeling a thing.

i dont have any clove oil but i figured freezing it would be the best thing. I'm gonna do that now. :(

:(, got him in there now. WOrst part is that he still had a lot of fight in him. When you divide your tanks, make sure that there's absolutely no way for the fish to get from one side to another

that's what happend to my 5" diameter gold severum about a month ago. the whole back tail got bitten off by my 14" red tail giant gourami. this is what i did:

mine was actually laying on its side. it was missing its back tail and both left and right fins were chewed off a little so it had a hard time swimming. i put him in a floating plastic weaved basket . it also has a snap on cover so it won't get out or the other fish won't jump in. i guess the basket kinda looks like a spaghetti strainer. after a day or two my severum started to stand up normally and eating. so then i got a divider and put him on the other side with no other fishes. now my severum is doing a lot better. it's a pretty tough little guy. it's a bit timid now but it's doing fine. it's still isolated from the big fish. the tail is growing back but it's not growing perfect. now it has crooked fin patterns. at least it is still alive and eating well. after the tail grows back i'm going to mix him with the big fishes. i got rid of my gourami. it killed about $150.00 worth of fishes in the past 2 years.

so just isolate him until the tail grows back. i didn't use any medication to heal him. what else do you have in your tank?

OMG DON"T FREEZE HIM!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS A BETTER WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no way..... they can totally feel it and sufficate.. i bet that sucks ass... i would of chopped its head off... quick and painless... it would be harder to sufficate it to death

this had to have been atleast the 2nd day he's been like this. He was hidden away and when i was looking into the tank, he just kind of caught my eye hiding in the corner. I knew something was up so when i got a closer look, bam, missing his entire tail fin and trying to swim away frantically when i tried catching him

he had white meat sticking out of the back. There was no way his fin would have grown back
