Need Help - Bulkhead plug leaking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Y not just use pvc primer and glue for the plug? I hate teflon tape and just permenatly glue all my hard line fittings.

Because, if its a crack in the bulkhead itself, you'll never be able to back it out. It's very permanent. Teflon tape will at least let you know if the leak is within the threads or not. Then you can choose to make it permanent later.

I'm trying the teflon tape/plug from the outside method first. I'd bet I overtightened the plug from the inside and cracked the bulkhead. My hope is that the crack only goes part of the way thru the bulkhead since the plug only reaches about 1/3 the depth of the bulkhead.

Got it 2/3 full, which is about 1-2 inches over the top of the bulkhead and the slow drip started.

Cranked the plug 1/8 turn tighter, which was all I could comfortably get, and the drip actually got slightly faster.

Well, that's disappointing. Not sure what to do now. Buy a new bulkhead? Find .44 inch acrylic and weld the the hole shut? Call a plumber?

Ugh.

For me, silicone on the threads should work. Of course you have to make sure the threads on both parts are dry from water and allow the silicone to cure for a day before water be added. If it still leaks after that, something must be wrong with the bulkhead(cracked). Good Luck.
