Go for one teaspoon per gallon. Add another set in the next 12 hours. Some people don't specify how salt must be added. That and the fact salt is sometimes not dissolved, can kill your bottom dwellers particularly plecos, loaches and catfishes. I've never lost anything doing this route. You have to make sure this is added GRADUALLY.
