The way it will be designed will cause all the water to pass through the socks as this will be the only option aside from overflowing the top part which won't happen. Or at least shouldn't.
The water splashing into the 1st compartment could get a little noisy if you had the plumbing running into the socks below the water level would greatly reduce noise. Not trying to be a pain just shooting stuff by u.
The build thread ragin cajun posted earlier is probably one of best around
Post #4, JC explains why he likes the sump design he went with, it came from the ideas of other users. Search jcardona1 on this site, see where this whole no baffles sump idea came from.
I think your design will work as designed, nothing wrong with it if you don't mind cleaning the stuff in the first chamber. Personally, I don't like cleaning sumps. I haven't cleaned mine in almost 2 years now.
What you have drawn up is going to catch all the trash that comes down the drain lines. Every bit of it. So now, you'll have to get all that out of the sump some kind of way. Right?
So, would you rather get it all out by changing 2 filter socks, or removing all that mech filter media from the first chamber, rinsing it out, and putting it back in, AND changing 2 filter socks? Of those 2 options, which do you honestly think will be quicker to do?
