I just went down to the beach and found this nice peice of driftwood for my 200g and need to know wat to do to prepare it to put in the tank, right now i am soaking it in freshwater. Help me out here, never had driftwood in my tank before.

At the very least MM, you're going to want to boil it in a 55 gallon drum, and then scrub the heck out of it with a brand new stiff bristled brush, and THEN I'd leave it soaking outside in some kind of tub for a few weeks, changing the water several times, and then scrub it some more... Wood can be LOADED with undesirables, and the boiling, scrubbing, and rinsing are about all I can think of to get rid of them...

iv collected almost all of my drift wood in my tanks, boiling it or getting it as hot as possible for as long as possible, and good scrubbing as said above is the best way to go.

I've never boiled driftwood, and I've never had a problem. I would just soak it in a big tub of water for a few weeks. Change the water every couple days.

yea just soak it in water. should be fine. i have even soaked them in tanks with fish with no problems. makes your water really tanic but kinda looks cool

all of the wood i have collected i just soaked in very hot water for about two weeks, just changing the hot water every other day. seems to do the job and i have never had a problem.

boiling the drift wood gets rid of spores and microorganisms that deteriorate it. im soaking my first pieces of drift woods as we speak.

I read online that you should boil the wood for 2 hours. I found that soaking the wood if hot water gets rid of tanins faster my wood is barely staining the water after just two days of soaking and boiling so I figure it will be submerged in 5 days or so. have fun scrubbing your wood!!! ( find using a razor is faster)

i am actually having a lil ph problem and i went to petco and my local petco fishman said to let drift wood sit in a buccket wit water for a couple of weeks until like a tea type color. if that helps.

What i do is... I put it in my bath tub. Put water in my big pan and boil it till it boils. haha Then take it to the bath tub and fill it up. & repeat it until the water surpasses the driftwood. Then leave it for a day. Or you can just let your bath tub do the work and turn the warm water to the max.
