At this point yes I have been in the hobby for about 9 years and no until about 4 months ago never used sand before, Ok I'll start from the top so no confusetions, bought sand at the pet shop in New Orleans for my convicts no real sand not playsand (they really loved it )here recently I moved back home because we are haveing a baby :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2 anyways before we moved the tank was fine even had a fry lol oscar loved them lol got back home and set up my 20g put the sand in no abnormal smells nothing ,but I added the water and cloudy bad real bad like nothing I've ever seen it almost looks like its sand but its not did a water change no change in cloudyness unfortunetly:nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly:Now I'm about to go nuts trying to find out what it is the Ph level is at 7.0 no ammonia and yes used bacteria supplements and I still had my stash of filters from my other tank (Not one prolem setting it up but my cons are getting pissed they hate my oscars lol)that I used to jump start the Bacteria but for some reason still cloudy as hell if I'm missing something please :drool::drool::drool::drool::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:I'm about to throw this tank out the window (not really but I guess if you had the same problem you would to ) thanks ahead of time .

did you not rinse the sand before putting it in to the tank? sounds like maybe it ground up a bit during the ride when it dried and you just forgot to rinse the sand, hope all works out

just figured i'd ask the most obvious solution, idk man that blows though that it's so murkey

I know and sorry didn't mean to sound snappy but that was actually my first guess and that couldn't have happened because I rinsed it before and after the trip just incase that and the sand needed a little cleaning before we left New Orleans.

Wow! You really need to work on your puncuation and grammer. From the little sense I made, you have a 20g with oscars and convicts. YOu just moved, set up the tank and added sand? If your filters dried out during the move, your tank didn't cycle, or if your oscars are large, you don't have enough bio media to support their load. Just keep doing water changes and maybe give some info on filtration and fish and water change schedule. Also try to make it a little easier to understand.

Ok well i had same problem when i put sand in my tank. Even if the sand bag says you dont have to rinse it RINSE IT. It will make your water cloudy no matter what just do water changes everyother day and it should clear out in a week or so.

It probably is bacteria bloom. If the ph, ammonia and nitrite are normal, then a bacteria bloom is likely. You would be amazed how much live in the substrate, especially sand, thats why it is used in fluidized bed filters.
Just a suggestion, change the water until its clear.

Yes I rinsed it the sand is not new it is about 4 months old ,no there are no oscars in that tank and never were and no nothing is in the tank at this time and no the filters didn't dry out sorry not a rookie to keeping fish I've got more than one tank this is just the first tank with sand ( No wonder everyone I talk to says stay away from sand)and thanks boldtogether it was a next guess actually was ready one of your old post about bacteria bloom .

When i started my tank with sand, it was horrid for the first week, it naturally settled and worked its way out. I am going to advise you to wait on it. I think alot of the cloudyness is incredibly small sand particles floating around. My 55 took a week. Also try to keep from disrupting it, when i make alot of commotion, it starts again, but usually settles in a day or two. hope it gets bette.r
