thats why I think it's so odd because when I first set up the tank in new orleans it only took about 24 hours to settle and the water was crystal clear in about 48 hours it's been about that and it's still as cloudy as when I set up the tank. And yes I used Accu-clear the first tima and this time the Accu-clear worked the first go around.

Put some filter floss in the filter, this works wonders for removing the tiny sand particles that cause the cloudyness. It will also protect your filter impellers from possible damage from the sand particles. I suggest doing lots of water changes to remove the floating sand to speed up the process of clearing the water.

Sand is great and vastly superior to to gravel you just have to make absolutely sure you wash it REALLY REALLY well if you use any commercialy bought stuff. I washed my naturaly collected beach sand really well and it never clouded my water to any significant degree.

I just set up a 55 gal tank with sand and it was a MESS. I rinsed really well and it was still really cloudy for about a week. Since it isn't new sand though, my guess it that either some of the sand got ground up and clouded everything up again (even with re-rinsing it could happen) or, like has been suggested before, it's a bacterial bloom of some kind. Also do you know if it's a silica based sand? if so it could be diatoms. Diatoms are little algal guys that use silica to build glass casings and they love silica based sand so that might be another possibility, but I'm not sure if you would get enough of them to cloud up the tank that fast?

iv got the same problem, got to walmart and buy one of those big HOB filters and a few boxes of cartridges, change the filters out every day, itll clear in less than a week

At this point yes I have been in the hobby for about 9 years and no until about 4 months ago never used sand before, Ok I'll start from the top so no confusetions, bought sand at the pet shop in New Orleans for my convicts no real sand not playsand (they really loved it )here recently I moved back home because we are haveing a baby :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2 anyways before we moved the tank was fine even had a fry lol oscar loved them lol got back home and set up my 20g put the sand in no abnormal smells nothing ,but I added the water and cloudy bad real bad like nothing I've ever seen it almost looks like its sand but its not did a water change no change in cloudyness unfortunetly:nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly:Now I'm about to go nuts trying to find out what it is the Ph level is at 7.0 no ammonia and yes used bacteria supplements and I still had my stash of filters from my other tank (Not one prolem setting it up but my cons are getting pissed they hate my oscars lol)that I used to jump start the Bacteria but for some reason still cloudy as hell if I'm missing something please :drool::drool::drool::drool::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:I'm about to throw this tank out the window (not really but I guess if you had the same problem you would to ) thanks ahead of time .

I got a major headache trying to read this long run-on sentence, but I would also check your filters. Sand may have gotten into the impellers preventing the filtration to work properly. Hope that helps, going to get an excedrin now.

really easy. if you have a canister filter just buy a sponge and fit it in the canister filter. rinse it daily and in 2 or 3 days your water is gonna be clear.

As for the way I type sorry not really worried about it didn't come here for a lesson on periods and come on now are you in pre-school grow up and act like an adult.:screwy:

just by a heavy duty sponge from home depot. there like a dollar. fit it into the filter and youll see how your water clears up. i do this even with overflows in the sump. be sure to rinse it though. and as soon as your water is clear take it out.

kool thanks alot man give it a try tommorrow when home depot opens back up by the way any chance you know what type I know some sponges can hurt the fish .
