Need help ID this arowana please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
first and second pics it really resembles a green. in the last pic, it looks like a 1.5. Definitely not a rtg. the colour on the tail and dorsal do not match that of an rtg. need a better pic without all the fancy lighting.

I think there are quite a number of tagged RTGs where the dorsal fin doesnt turn very dark

Its the same with the horseshoe markings on greens. some greens dont really have them.

I guess the only way is to wait and see haha. I do admit that it is prolly a hybrid of somekind. The scale color under natural light is somewhat like unpolished brass, back is brown and the fins are clearly red. it has the brass specs on the 5th level. the lips are brown ruling out red genes i think =)

Markings and colouration on the fish already a clear sign of not belonging to a RTG. The scales too.:)

I just contacted the LFS and negotiated an exchange with a top up for a proper RTG as we know it. =p in their shipments over the next couple weeks. too bad cause the body shape of this guy is nice and it was cheap lol.

and the chinese translation for 1.5 = red tail golden arowana in mandarin (Hong Wei Jin Long) in Putonghua

they call the RTG as we know it Red Jewel ( Hong Bao Shi) in Putonghua

I was going to say earlier that the body shape of the fish is nice. If you didn't expect too much out of it, it might be a nice fish, and if it was cheap, I'd keep it. Of course, not being able to keep Asian aros at all, I'd be happy with a yellow tail :irked:

Its fairly cheap, about 140usd only. it has somewhat of an Ex-girlfriend temper too. Really cute and tame when it feels like it.

However it is also pretty aggro and kills anything else in the tank that moves

AWESOME FIND!
