Polypterus senegalus for the first pic

Polypterus delhezi for the second pic

The their pic is a type of spiny eel. I want to say tire track pattern seems a little off.

The eel often changes color though hes often that soild green brownish color with no visible pattern. That's something eles that makes me curious as to why he does that..

No i didn't get a care list its a ling story on what happened but long story short when he went to boot camp his friends took them and couldn't handle the maintenance and this is one of the last things my brother has to call his own so i took responsibility for them. I'm in the process of becoming a vet tech but unfortunately were not taught much about fish..So I'm teaching myself.

Thats great to hear you becoming a Vet-tech :D do you have a test kit for checking your water parameters Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and PH, also weekly water changes will keep the aquarium inhabitants healthy, always use dechlorinator when doing wc's. There is a lot of experience on this forum, so you can learn plenty, ask questions and search the forum for info.:)

It's not uncommon for spiny eels to change colors a bit. My fire eels change to a deep charcoal black with their yellow/orange lines showing when they have been in the light for a while. When I turn the lights on in the morning after they have been in the dark all night they are a rather light brown with a bit of pattern showing across their whole bodies.
