duanes said, females have a black blotch on the dorsal fin that the males lack. Full grown females will typically also have black stripes, most males don’t.
Males don't have melanin in the dorsal, but do have an array of blue spots, females don't have.

Mesoheros festae will eventually eat the tetras, and kill your other cichlids, they are no match for it
