you would probably see its really personality and character in a "Huge" Aquarium or a pond, if he came from the wild it may take him a while to become domesticated. Plus he might need some time too settle in and get used to his surroundings and you! it will help by providing him a few nice hiding places 
so?...you should still NEVER release a fish once it has touched an aquarium native or not
