Honestly doink seeing your male first hand I think it's solid Midas. That female was mine last year. Doink grew her out from 3 inches to a solid 8 in less than 4 months. She's slowed a bit since then. That male is Nice in person!
 
Heck of a set of lips if it's a pure midas - generally pure midas don't have the huge lips, and most red devil are starting to lose theirs due to domestic breeding...so it's hard to say.
 
Really? The lips don't really look that big... since it was bought in a LFS I figure it would have something down the line. I think it definitely has more midas if it is a cross.

Very nice looking fish. I agree that it looks far more like a Midas than a devil.
 
I'd say its a red devil. I haven't seen many midas with those kind of patch work. I also think the large lips would make it a RD.
 
I was at the LFS the other day, and mentioned a huge midas they had in stock to the owner. she corrected me and said it was a "Rose Queen". its head was strikingly similar to this.

what is a rose queen? is it just a name given for a RD/Midas hybrid, or what?

I know I should've asked the owner of the LFS, but I didn't want to look any stupider while looking someone in the face...
