NO YOU are right lib its a halbochromis compressiceps very young tho looks just like mine

xxmufasaxx No, your wrong.
It most definately is not the Malawi Eye biter.

It is Red Empress, I have just checked out some tine babies in my LFS, because I have never seen any at an inch, however, my LFS has some, and they check out completely.
The head looks wrong, simply because of the size..
The body will fill out, and change the proportion to the head.

Its a similar looking fish, but it IS NOT malawi eye biter.

Im not arguing the toss, as I know Im right.

To me it looks more to be a hybrid of a dimidiocromis strigatus. But at that size and without seeing it in person it is still a toss up.

Deffinatly not a protomelas taeniolatus (red empress) as I have breed them for many years. The face is way to elongated to be one.

I have also bred and kept them for years, and I am telling you it is.
There are more than one variety, from different parts of the lake, and dont forget that one is an inch in size, meaning its final shape will be alot different to now.

intermedius or red empress

It is most certainly Dimidiochromis sp.
There may be several geographical variations of Protomelas taeniolatus but the differences are noted in barring/pattern and color. Absolutely none have the laterally compressed body and elongated facial structure of your fish.
