Aba aba are very aggressive fish. They may tolerate tankmates but will likely kill everything in ur tank eventually. Some keepers have gotten away with it but majority of time aba aba will kill everything in the tank...including heaters/plumbing.
They require a big tank. Capable of getting to 3 feet easily in home aqauriums if taken care of. If trying to keep the fish for life then anything larger than 350g (500g should be good for one for life) should work. They require dim lighting. Usually found in muddy waters under submerged tree roots. No special water requirements.
Will take most foods. Live or prepared. Wouldn't recommend live food as risk of parasite etc. Unless you raise ur own and want to feed live food then ur choice.
I've seen most owners keeping one but not two. I don't remember if they tolerate each other. I would say likely not unless and male and female. Hard to tell, like gars. Also I've talked to other keepers ( a while ago) and was always advised if keeping more than one will need a tank of atleast 1000g. If trying to get it to mate then will need a waterfall or some kid of effect. I guess it triggers spawning/mating.
Had one a while back. That was a mean As heck. It destroyed air hoses and a heater in my tank. Very interesting and cool fish.
Ur polys may not make it. Not cause the aba aba is hungry cause it's evil.
Hope that helps somewhat. Other memebers will chime in. I think a member named
