i planning to get a arowana tank next week ! and .. 1 of the arowana shop owner tell me .. beside filter and stuff ~~ . i need a media .. and the set up its $250 SGD . is it a need for arowana's? AND what is it for ?! i have no idea whats media .. GUY HELP ME PLEASE !! THANKS ALOT

all filters need media have you ever kept fish before

The media is what stays inside ur filter the purpose of it is to house bacteria so u don't have to change the water every damn day.
The bigger the tank the bigger the filter needed, every tank needs some kinda media

I suggest you learn the nitrogen cycle as it pertains to aquariums. Most valuable thing to know regarding all fish keeping.

"Media" in this context is not the same as newspaper, radio and such. I assume this is simply a problem with English as Second Language (ESL), and you can't seem to grasp the terminology of MEDIA. Here's a wiki read:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_%28aquarium%29

In short, a filter is not a media. But it is the material that you put inside the filter to help provide mechanical and biological filtration.

By the way, English is my second language too so that probably help me identify your problem a bit better. Or at least so I hope...

media is what inside a filteration system in aquarium term, when someone says filter(talking about aquarium) i expect its the whole filteration system for short.

250$ SGD, so that's like 204$ USD for a complete setup for an Arowana?... I seriously doubt this tank is sufficient size...
