Need Help! Mom is going to end fish hobby!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After some conversation with johnptc i think ive got it straight.

I just have to focus more because I get distracted easily - which doesnt mean im lazy..

He suggests add which sorta fits my description but hey you never know

After all, getting a 125 gallon tank for every 95 on report card is pretty sweet dont you think?

Thanks mfk... now i just need to convince her to let me keep my 55 for now

Does anyone have tips on taking tests? I have that problem of knowing everything and then BLANKING OUT ON THE TEST!

But then again im lazy too because I try to study the night before but end up sleeping... :nilly:

Instead of cramming the night before, study a little each night. For example if there is a test friday, study 30-45 mins monday-thursday. It works for me.

As for blanking on the test, its probably all in your mind. If you think you will do bad on the test, you probably will. This might sound lame, but it works for me on my calc tests. The day of the test, or the night before i say affirmations. Like "i know this chapter"; "im gonna do good on this test" and im happy gettin B's and C's than D's.

the picture of my dog came from this reply...

Well then as a fish keeper and a pit bull owner you have double the responsibility :D I use it as a metaphor as I know many people on here keep various other pets considered more demanding and even a bit more on the hazardous side than fish. ( that’s not dog that’s venomous snakes) and yes nice dog nice fish but it all boils down to you have a reasonability to look after that dog/fish/snake from the day you bought it given it and having that reasonability and the knowledge that goes with said hobby This can be a good thing. As oddball pointed out and as I did it’s down to one person and that’s you. The average(I say the bulk before every one attack the English bloke) bad dog is down to a bad owner and how he was brought up and I’m afraid that goes for people as well.

She thought the ocean was salty because of Whale sperm... yep... :)
.

   :lol3: :lol3:

So how does she know its salty. Sounds like a girl id date in high school.

Like previously stated, lack of confidence will lead to failure everytime. Your study time should result in confidence. If it does not than you are not doing it right. Change the way you study. Have your Mom go over the material with you and quiz you. You can also write the information down a few times to retain it better. It is good that you see the ignorance of cheating or acting out. Integrity will get you alot further. Good luck

Okay

I still dont understand how a person would even think the ocean is salty because of whale sperm... very very VERY lucky on tests?

Studying little by little arent my best options because i am the biggest procrastinator you will ever meet in your life.

Procrastination always gets to me.

if your problem is with procrastination the only problem is yourself. just get it together dude you're only in high school (from the looks of it) and school work isn't getting any lesser for you in the years to come. if you use the fact you procrastinate often as an excuse you deserve to get your fish tank taken away and suffer the consequences. bottom line: take the same responsibility you do with your fish tank and interest in fish keeping as you would with the rest of your life. hate to sound harsh but we've all been there, it's school. If you can't find the reason or motivation to apply yourself for you then do it for your parents out of respect instead of only worrying about the end effects for yourself (i.e. losing YOUR fish tank) when there are others involved, mainly your parents. on their side of it is, their son is apathetic towards forming proper study habits when college is in the near future. they're not trippin, they're just trying to make sure you know that the effort you put into obligations whether it be school, work or other is all a matter of taking personal responsibility. think about it like feeding your fish, it's only going to get done right if YOU do it and much like school, feeding your fish isn't something to be hesitant of accomplishing since indeed you do desire the best results for your fish and yourself I would assume?

Go mom. Grades are too important not to take drastic measure to get your attention. If my kids we're failing, than I'd start taking away priviledges too.

If you're smart enough to take care of your fish, than you're smart enough to pass your classes.

Although I agree with the person who replied above me that the hobby is educational. And it's safe too!

I agree, this hobby is definitely constructive, and a great learning experience. However, Education is much more important than your hobby. Even if it is not the specific reason you are failing, I think that a significant punishment might be exactly what you need to get the motivation to suceed. School is not that hard. Keeping predatory fish is at least as hard as many high school classes. You are simply not applying yourself. If you have hopes like I do of having a truly monsterous tank you will never get it with a minimum wage job, which is exactly what you will have if you don't graduate. You need to reorganize your priorities. If you put as much effort into your education as you are in keeping your fish, you will pass easily. I am sorry but I don't feel sorry for you. Education is the cornerstone of success.

Are your classes very hard? are they AP? If I ever study it isn't longer than 15-30 mins, cramming seems to work better for me anyways. Most tests are common sense just think about the question and out will come the answers, When do you take ACT? Still you need to either cheat or buckle down, I apply a little of both and works like a charm.
