NEED HELP NOW!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
unfortunately, cycling is as important as everyone makes it out to be for the long-term health of the fish, and fish-keeping isn't for those without patience. that said, your best results will come from letting nature take it's course. you definitely won't really get much help from most cycle products~ they're most often dead bacteria and have heard can even be detrimental at times and push the cycling process back further. using water from an already-cycled tank can help. it will all seem to go faster if you add some live plants [if you haven't already] and do water-changes very regularly : ) also, lots of people around MFK, including myself, have officially given-up carbon for superior media products like purigen. Seachem's line of media products allows you to really get the most out of your canister's media options. purigen is also reusable, saving money is always good. carbon doesn't inhibit too much, but i'd take it out to be safe :> hope that helps ~

i'm not sure how well stability works, but i used in my last tank for the sake of experiment to help cycle it with seeming success, but i bet everyone's here got an opinion on what works and what doesn't, brand-to-brand~

i never said that he didnt need to cycle his tank. it apears to me like he is going to cycle his tank with the fish in it and i was explaining how to do it with the fish in as i have done and it has worked fine for me. please elaborate how the nitrogen cycle works then compare it to a water change and you will see that a water change removes the toxins from the aquarium and the cycle only converts the toxins to a less harmful state while leaving harmful bacteria in the tank. and i also suggested zeo carb wich converts ammonia to a non toxic form which still allows the nitrosomona bacteria to develop and oxidize the ammonia into nitrites which is a lot less toxic. then the nitrobacter bacteria will develop oxidizing the nitrites into nitrates which is further less toxic which is removed by eitherwater change or phosphate remover. i fully understand how the nitrogen cycle works and its important role in an aquarium. like i said it is important but not essential to start an aquarium it will occur naturally. people have been keeping aquariums since before the nitrogen cycle was discovered and that is how they did it. so please next time before you insult someone ask a damn question. theres no need to be rude about it. thank you

find someone with an established canister or sponge filter, ring out the sponge in a plastic bag, and dump that into your tank. Don't waste your money on seachem stability or any other cycling product. that **** is garbage. it doesn't work. it's a ****ing scam.

You have either never used it, or used it wrong.

No need for me to ask questions, thank you. It absolutely is essential to start an aquarium by cycling it if you want healthy fish. If you want them to live short lives, than by all means throw them in and do water changes.

Its obvious that you still have a lot to learn about what is good and bad for fish. And if you don't know, please refrain from giving people advise that can potentially harm their fish.

Could you explain the part I highlighted please? What part of the nitrogen cycle involves "harmful bacteria?"

wow, i'm just speechless. ammonia is caustic.. it BURNS. put some on your skin and leave it there for a few minutes. and nitrite is pure poison, it kills. ignore EVERYTHING that go navy said, that is pure ignorance.

there is a sticky in the set up and filtration section that explains how to do a fishless cycle. read it, use it.. do it right from the start. carbon won't inhibit your BB cycle. and you need to keep the temp up, at least 83 degrees, to get the BB to cycle.

you also need media in your canister for the BB to grow on. ceramic rings are my choice. some people like seachem matrix. plastic bio balls and scrubbies are not good choices for inside a canister.

Thank You! Exactly what I was saying.

nitrate is toxic. potentially harm or deffinately harm theres a big difference and no i do not believe that his fish will be harmed if he does it right. remember that i did suggest zeo carb making ammonia not a factor. now explain to me oh wise and mighty fish master joe, what about cycling with fish will be more detremental than prolonged exposure to nitrates. by your logic then fish should not be kept in an aquarium at all. stop being a hippie joe lol

also if your aquarium water is caustic then you are deffinately doing something wrong. i challenge you to leave your hand in your tank for an hour and see how badly it burns you. youll be ok its just fish pee pee.
