Need help on a fish ID. Odd looking Sev.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
These are sold near me as red-spotted gold severums. They used to sell for $40 and you would only see them periodically. Now, one store I go to has them all the time and sells them for $30.

With some love that little guy will look good. His fins will grow back. But looks like its at a Chain pet store pets mart or PetCo. If so DO NOT ADD IT TO YOUR FISH UNLESS YOU KEEP IT IN A QT first for 2 weeks. Thoes stores always have Ich well the ones near me always do and I find Petsmart to be the worst about it.

Ok, well just got off the phone with the guy and he said we can work it out. Im going to give him 10 dollars and one of my Alhis that ive been trying to get rid of for awhile now. he was the bully of the tank and i was about ready to just give him away. But my water temp is 75 F in the tank. Is that going to be too low? Also he will be in there with 3 Satanoperca leucosticta which is not my concern. But there is also another Alhi and two red peacocks in the tank and im concerned that one of them is going to try and take over the alpha male spot and bully the Sev. I know i probably shouldnt of mixed my Africans with my SAs but i did. Should I just put the sev in there and watch closely for bullying or should I remove the africans before hand? Going to pick him up at 2:30 hope i can get some good advice before I have to leave. Thanks again guys. Ima nurse this guy back 100% Save him from that little tank and most likely death. Oh and i have a 150g so they fish dont really make it a point to mess with eachother a lot because they have a lot of swimming. hope this helps.

I would quarantine the fish no matter the source especially coming from any kind of store.

Quarantine as advised, to make sure your existing fish don't get sick. My red is very docile with other fish, and is very in your face when you come to the tank. Keep an eye on the bullying between them. How big are they compared to him? My little guy was a rescue, had eye damage that never healed so he has white specks inside his eyes, but he sees fine, and is really pretty. Here's an older picture of him, he's a lot thicker now.

The blue is full grown and the two reds are still relitively young. ide say 3" But the blue has always been real laid back and kinda keeps to himself. Biggest problem here is that i have no quarantine tank so I really dont have a choice here. ill just have to cross my fingers. im not too concerned what happens to my africans. Its my Geos im worried about. Ive had them for like 2yrs now. Im just gonna have to chance it. I know its not the best idea but ive been buying fish from this store for 10 years now and never had a problem. They have a 100% track record with me and about 3 of my close buddies so Im giving it a shot. If I dont he will be gone by next wk. and I really want to be the one to nurse this guy back to health. It always makes it a stronger bond between me and the fish to know i possibly saved its life. wish me luck. 2 1/2hrs and he will be here. I will post pics tonight. Thx again guys for all the help.
