So I have two exhaust on my car. The right side passenger exhaust tip hangs 1.5" lower than the left driver side exhaust. I still have bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty so I took my car to the dealership to get it fix. The dealership told me they would have to heat up the exhaust and bend it up, which is a valid way to even out the exhaust. However I just wanted them to adjust the hanger and just do some adjusting by hand to even them out and the guy told me they couldn't do it that way, even though he didn't even look under the car. Also he said my warranty doesn't cover the exhaust, even though my warranty says the powertrain covers exhaust. This is just a cosmetic thing, but doesn't my warranty cover this? I didn't hit anything either.

From my warranty book:

(1) Your vehicle’s Powertrain components are covered for five years or
60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The extended coverage applies to
the
Engine: all internal lubricated parts, cylinder block, cylinder heads,
electrical fuel pump, electronic engine control unit, engine mounts, flywheel,
injection pump, manifold (exhaust and intake), manifold bolts, oil
pan, oil pump, seals and gaskets, thermostat, thermostat housing, timing

chain cover, timing chain (gears or belt), turbocharger/supercharger unit,

I wish I had spoken up, I don't know much about cars and I didn't want to act like an idiot. Did the dealership just not want to fix my car? Or was the dealership valid?

Nope. The warranty just covers you exhaust manifold. Not your exhaust system. Just take it a muffler shop and tell them to cut the hanger and even it out.

Gotch ya. How much do you think this is gonna cost to even it out at the muffler shop? $50? Could it be something that me and my dad could do? I've been reading up on it and seems like there is just alot of adjusting the hangers.

I would jump under the car and try and fix it myself before taking it to a muffler shop to get them to do it.. Not sure how much a shop would charge, but if you have a friend that works in one he might do it for free.. :)

Yeah one of my dad's friend is a mechanic. From what I've been reading up on evening out two exhausts, seems like it's just purely adjusting until you get it just right no changing parts or anything like that. I don't know much about cars, but wouldn't an alighment just fix the problem? Since an alighment you're just straightening out the car right?

I think at Auto Zone or some place along those lines have the black rubber hangers, if you can take the the original rubber hanger off, take it off and replace it with a shorter one. If the exhaust has welded hanger's, you are going to have to take it to the shop. Should be about $20 to $50 bucks.

A wheel alignment? That wouldn't fix your muffler issue.

It's a 2008 Mercury Milan premier FWD. I really hope it's a rubber hanger.

LOL like I said, I'm a car idiot.

All is good man. How bad is it off from the other side?

I'm pretty sure the Auto shops also have metal adjustable hangers as well.

The right passenger side hangs ~1" lower than the left driver side. Doesn't stick out uneven or anything, just hangs lower. When I push the right one up by hand they are both even. So looks like I just gotta get a shorter hanger.
