Guys so i got this 8” male jag for more than a month now. Problem is it Is always hiding or sitting in the dark corner of the tank when people are around... are jaguars like that? when i drop food he waits till i leave to eat or waits till its lights out to eat. Will that change or he gonna be like that for good… i tried spending alot of time sitting near the tank but he just sits in the corner When i do. TiA

How much cover does he have? Any floating plants? How bright are the lights? He’s at the size right now where he is easy prey for birds and other above water predators, so his natural response is to be extremely timid and skittish. After growing more he will be more outgoing, but for the meantime adding cover will help it feel more secure.
Adding dithers also helps to bring out this behavior, but not many will last with a jag (good if you have extra convict fry or livebearers though).

Where is this tank located? How much regular traffic does it receive? Is the bottom of the tank at least as high as your waist?

Remove the canopy above your tank, and keep the above tank light off. Use only room ambient light to keep the tank lit. This let's the jag see further outside of the tank and into the room and learn the room's normal routine traffic. With the light on above the tank, he only sees you and anything approaching the tank last minute. My jag never hid from 2"-10", and there wasn't much cover. The tank was in the living room so he got used to a lot of foot traffic (and TV time)

Looks like it's trying to stay away from the brightest area of the tank. I would keep the top lights off for the mean time. Maybe 3-4 weeks and see if it's demeanor changes
Oh ok. Yeah just didnt expect him to be like this.. my black wolf is way more outgoing than him lol

Me personally I would add some hiding spots in the tank that he can fit into or behind and be hidden from direct view. I find that generally if a fish has plenty of places to hide it tends to make em more comfortable with staying out in the open more as they know that they can hide if need be.
