He stated that in his original post.

i know he sent to it him as a zonatus, but what i meant was after he had it did he ever try sending him a pic to get an accurate id.

got to sat thats a mix hartwegi has a strip across his forhead and zonatum looks noththing like that

One of my pet peeves is mislabeled fish, but even I get caught occationally, I bought them as zonatum, so sold them as that, I have had both fish come in labeled as the other, when they are smaller it is hard to tell, fish turned out really nice! I'll let the guy know who is breeding them what he has. Ken

looks like bifa and long hartwegi body. Very nice fish!!
But unprofessional mistake.. It defeated the purpose of order/buying the fish.

It's not really fair to call that an unprofessional mistake on Ken's part. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time so these things, while unfortunate, will happen. Now if it was something that Ken did all the time and/or if he came into this thread still claiming this fish to be zonatus then that would be another story, but he didn't.

This is a rare occasion where a mistake was made from his facility and it was simply because he received fish that he was told were one thing but were actually another. Unfortunately, when you're dealing with juveniles the mistake may not be apparent right away, instead it will take some time growing a fish out to see that it is actually a different species.

Now an LFS here in Indy has a fish that looks exactly like the one in question and they are also selling it as P. zonatus which is clearly wrong. They, however, without a resident CA specialist cannot call it anything other than what they received it as.

Bottom line is these things are going to happen here and there.

:)

No ill intent meant I'm sure, but the supplier to Ken should be taken to task. You really can't make that kind of mistake if you're going to sell your fish, especially when it is someone else who has to take the heat for your mistake.

All that aside, that's a terrific looking specimen.

Hi Jason.
The seller sells fish. You pay for a Zonatum, but instead you get a hybrided Hartwegi. How's that not unprofessional mistake? Should you go to a lfs and get a mislabeled fish instead then? Maybe Im more anal than some because I was trained to pay attention to details in my last job. But really, fair or not, this is no Zonatum and mistake is mistake. We all make them.. It's something that happens just like accidents.

Hey no one is denying their mistake here. It should be forgiven. We all make mistakes.

It's all cool but I feel bad for my man Ghage because he took all the time and effort to raise a fish that wasnt his.

Maury! That not ma fish. Look at the eyes tha nOse!! Nah nah nah nah!!

but in the end, I would like to add that Im not perfect and I do see mistakes in my future too.

To me in order for it to be considered unprofessional would be intent. Ken had no intention of mislabelling these fish and selling them as something they were not. He received a group of juvenile fish that look very similar to several other species as juveniles, so he had no choice but to sell them as what he was told they were. What should he do? Grow out every single fish he receives and sell them as subadults instead of as juveniles?

First off, I would let the buyer decide if they feel ripped off. Ken has always stood behind his fish with me. If I was getting this fish to mate up with another fish or buying a pair to breed them I would be concerned. If I just wanted a nice looking single fish I don't think I would care. If the buyer is concerned then they should contact Ken by email or PM and let them address the issue that way.

That fish looks pure Hartwegi to me but I'm no expert.

the animal guy, you seem to be on a bit of a vendor hunt of lately. If you order from any of them enough you will get either something mislabled, something sick, or some issue. Shipping fish is a tough business with many things that can and will go wrong.
