Wasn't sure on where to put this...But anyway i just lost my golden gecko to old age (ive had him for 7 years) and was going to turn his tank (a 5.5 gallon) into a dwarf puffer tank. I jsut went out today and bought very small rounded gravel because there is no sand at this lfs. and a under gravel filter and am letting it cycle for the puffers and i just need some basic knowledge for them ok here are some of y questions.

What is the best food to feed them?
Is my filtration good enough for just one dwarf puffer?
I've heard that the need brakish water when full grown. Is this true?
What percent of water change should i make and how often?
Would a dp be alright in room temp water?(right now it will wtay atlike 70-75 degrees f.)
Any good tankmates to be the clean up crew?
Any other information on raising dp's will be greatly appriciated! thank you for taking time to read this thread :D

i accidentially mispelled the title it's supposed to say "Dwarf" puffers

The bulk of their diet will be frozen blood worms (thawed of course), and live if you can find a clean source without disease/parasites, etc..

Aqua culturing your own pond snails (the kind in the plant tanks at petco/smart etc...) is best, raise them in a separate tank, or use an AquaClear filter as a mini refugium.

Personally, I think UGF's are crap. Even one of those small internal filters from whisper would be better (the powered kind, not the air-driven one).

I would go with at least a small powerhead with prefilter/sponge attached to it. Those make good filters in small tanks because they move water, oxygenate, and filter.

Not at all, they are completely FW their whole lives.

50% a week minimum. They are small, but eat and crap a lot because of their high activity level.

I kept min in the 80 to 85 region.

There has been limited success with otocinclus, but in too small a tank, they will get harassed by the dp's.

does anyone here have a working hang on power filter that u could send me? im short on money and the ones around here are 30 bucks and i don have that much(lol im pretty much flat broke until i get my job :P)
