I'm wanting to get one or two mid-sized (6" or so) peaceful cichlids for a 75 gallon PLANTED community tank.

I was previously looking at various eartheater type cichlids but I'm worried about them digging up my plants constantly, especially with a sand substrate (also I hear they prefer being in groups).

So far all I can really think of is a Firemouth, which is totally fine with me to fill one of the spots.

If anyone has a suggestion or two, or to tell me what I think about eartheaters or firemouths is wrong, it would be much appreciated. My LFS is doing an order soon and I'd really like to have them order something new for me.

I'm liking the keyhole cichlid, definitely a possibility. The rainbow is a bit too small though I think.

I'm guessing a keyhole and a firemouth would probably get along ok.

Well the plants are large, and the sand is deep, so that should help to some degree.

I'm guessing the plant wreckage factor has alot to do with the individual fish as well. I've read things on both the keyhole and the firemouth saying they generally won't mess with plants.

All cichlids will end up digging at some point, just make sure to have your roots well anchored.
