Need help picking a cichlid or two

like previously stated most cichlids will make a mess out of your plants and alot will eat em.

I think Severums would look cool in a planted tank just not sure they would leave your plants alone

Your best bet is Rams,Angels,or Discus
 
Not a fan of angels or discus really, and rams are too small.

Still liking the keyhole cichlid, but now leaning away from firemouth and back toward an eartheater. Many different places have said that even though they suck up sand, the tend to spit it out in more or less the same spot, and rarely touch the roots of a plant.

Do eartheaters really need to be kept in groups though? If you don't, do they die of depression or what.
 
keyhole is a good choice for planted tank as far as cichlids go. I never had good luck keeping plants with eartheaters unless they were potted or rooted into some driftwood.
 
i'm just making a suggestion that if you would like to go a bit bigger jack dempseys can be really pretty and dont get to big
